Car 555 is run by the Ross Family of Mona Vale, NSW. Duncan is
a veteran of 9 bashes, while Sally has completed 7.
Originally a 1965 VW Beetle, 'Buggy' was extensively prepared for
the gruelling conditions of outback Australia, having been repainted
and an electric beer fridge fitted.
With 1,198 throbbing cc's of superior German engineering, Buggy
is ready to take on virtually anything this dry old land can throw
at her - with the obvious exception of hills.
Buggy happily scoots along at top speed (40kmh) singing 'Don't
Worry Be Happy' and 'Take Me to the River' and has an unexpected
surprise for those who get just a little too close
.
Crewed by Duncan and Sally Ross, with a pit crew of teenage sons,
Logan and James, the family takes the event about as seriously as
you can take an event completed in a bright red, blue spotted 1965
Volkswagon while dressed up in wings and antennas!
Stacked to the hubcaps with sweets and other goodies, Buggy stops
at all official and unofficial events along the way. Brightening
the day of children in the outback towns and schools is what we
are about.
